Shockwave
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic (sound) waves to stimulate the body's natural healing response. It can be particularly helpful for long-standing pain that has not improved with rest, exercise, or other treatments. In recent years the technique has become popular in the treatment of a number of musculoskeletal conditions including:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Rotator cuff calcific tendinopathy
- Rotator cuff tendinopathy (non-calcific)
- Tennis and golfers elbow
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Knee cap pain and tendinopathy
- Hip pain including Greater trochanteric pain syndrome
- Buttock pain including hamstring tendinopathy
- Muscle tension with trigger points
- Chronic low back pain
- Knee osteoarthritis
Shockwave therapy works via targeted impulses to the injured tissue causing a degree of microtrauma, which encourages tissue repair, improved circulation, and a reduction of the body's heightened pain response. This can be beneficial when healing has slowed or when pain persists even after the original injury has recovered.
At Geraldton Health Centre, we use industry-leading EMS Shockwave Therapy equipment to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based care.
